Star vs. the Forces of Evil: The Battle for Mewni – Review

New season! Ever since the cliffhanger season 2 ended on I’ve been excited for season 3 and the news it was starting with a TV movie was even more exciting.

It’s important to note that while it is a TV movie it’s also four episodes back to back and since the opening and ending themes are still included (unlike something like A Sitch in Time, So the Drama or Across the 2nd Dimension which had unique openings and endings) it seems like they weren’t originally pitched as a movie. That said it still works well as one and is honestly the best of this year’s Disney Princess movies.

As a fan of the show it was great seeing more of the show’s history with Queen Moon telling the story of her deal with Eclipsa and encounter with Toffee setting up the consequences that will have a bigger role over the course of the season (or/and next season).

Speaking of Toffee he’s just as sinister as ever, this is probably the last we’ll see of him (except maybe in flashbacks) which is a shame as he’s one of Disney’s better recent villains but I understand they probably want to put more focus on Eclipsa after this.

This isn’t going to be a good introduction to the franchise as it requires knowledge of the events of the previous two seasons but if you’re a fan of the show it doesn’t disappoint.
